How to Prepare for the Month of Ramada

From the advice of Imam Ali al-Ridha A.S on preparing for the month of Ramadan:

"Indeed, most of Sha'ban has passed, and this is the last Friday of it. So, make up for your shortcomings in what has passed of it, and engage in what concerns you, leaving aside what does not concern you.

Increase your prayers, seek forgiveness, and recite the Quran.

Repent to Allah from your sins so that the month of Allah may come to you while you are sincere to Him.

Do not leave any trust on your shoulders except that you fulfill it, nor keep any grudge in your heart against a believer except that you remove it.

Do not persist in any sin, but rather turn away from it.

Fear Allah and rely on Him in your private and public affairs. And whoever relies on Allah, He is sufficient for him.

Indeed, Allah’s command is destined; He has set a measure for everything."

Increase in saying during the remaining days of this month: 'O Allah, if You did not forgive us in what has passed of Sha'ban, forgive us for what remains of it.'" 1

1- If I am unsure about the beginning of Ramadan and fasted a day, but someone corrects me, what should I say?

The Imam al-Sadiq A.S was asked about the doubtful day in Sha'ban, and he said:

"It is more beloved to me to fast a day of Sha'ban than to break my fast on a day of Ramadan."2

2- How should I welcome the month of Ramadan?

The answer: I face the Qibla, raise my hands, and make the following supplication as the Messenger of Allah PBBH used to say:

"O Allah, bring it upon us with safety, faith, peace, Islam, good health, abundant provision, and the removal of ailments. O Allah, grant us fasting, standing in prayer, and reciting the Quran in it.

O Allah, grant us its safety, accept it from us, and grant us peace in it." 3

3- What is the etiquette of fasting as mentioned by the Ahl al-Bayt?

The answer: Imam al-Sadiq A.S said:

"When you fast, let your hearing, sight, hair, and skin also fast... Do not let your day of fasting be like your day of breaking the fast."4

4- What should the fasting person say when breaking their fast

    Imam al-Sadiq A.S said:

"Praise be to Allah who helped us fast and provided for us to break our fast. O Allah, accept it from us, help us with it, and grant us ease and health. Praise be to Allah who has relieved us of a day in the month of Ramadan." 5

5- How do I know the exact time for fasting and breaking the fast, so I can excuse myself if I break my fast on a certain day

The answer: A person is entrusted with this, and they know best when they are ill and excused from fasting. Imam al-Sadiq A.S said:

"He is entrusted with it, and it is up to him. If he feels weak, he should break his fast; if he feels strong, he should fast."6

6- I want a comprehensive statement about maintaining the validity of fasting

    Imam al-Baqir A.S said:

"Nothing harms the fasting person as long as they avoid three things: food, drink, and sexual relations, and immersion in water."7
