Some of the questions addressed to BAYTULHUDA The House of Guidance and answered by his Eminence Sheikh Tammam Ahmad may Allah protect him.

1. What happens to a person if he loses faith in God and how can he get closer to God?

The answer: If a person loses their faith, they lose their worldly life and their afterlife. As for getting closer to God, it only comes through repentance, performing the obligatory and voluntary prayers, and saving no effort in obedience.

2. What does Islam say about mental health?

The answer: Everything related to mental health, which means a person’s safety from anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, fear, feelings of despair, defeat, hatred of life. worry and distress are summed up in one verse from the Book of God Almighty, which is His saying, Glory be to Him: Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allāh. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allāh hearts are assured [Surat Al-Raad 28]. Whoever wants to reassure his heart and feel peace of mind, let them remember God often ((Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no God but Allah, and Allah is great)).

((subẖān Allahi, walhamdu Lillāhi, walā Ilāha Illa Allāhu, wallāhu Akbar)).

This is because anxiety, fear, and worry arise from a person’s excessive thinking about worldly life conditions, and their lack of conviction that livelihood is already allocated by God and it is not gained by desire or striving, and no dislike will make it go. For that reason, God forbade His servants, in terms of wealth, from being sad about what they have not attained, as well as from being proud except of obedience to God and seeking His satisfaction, so God Almighty said:

(22) No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register [the Preserved Slate (al-Lawḥ al-Maḥfūẓ).] before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allāh, is easy. (23) In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allāh does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful [Surat Al-Hadid].

Among the supplications that strengthen a Muslim’s certainty and reassure their heart is the supplication of Imam al-Sajjad (peace be upon him):

((Praise belongs to God in satisfaction with God's rule!
I bear witness that God has apportioned the livelihoods of His servants with justice and undertaken bounty for all His creatures.
O God, bless Muhammad and his Family, tempt me not with what Thou hast given to Thy creatures and tempt them not with what Thou hast withheld from me; lest I envy Thy creatures and despise Thy rule!
O God, bless Muhammad and his Family, delight my soul through Thy decree, expand my breast through the instances of Thy rule, give to me a trust through which I may admit that Thy decree runs only to the best, and let my gratitude to Thee for what Thou hast taken away from me be more abundant than my gratitude to Thee for what Thou hast conferred upon me!
Preserve me from imagining any meanness in someone who is destitute or imagining any superiority in someone who possesses wealth, for the noble is he whom obedience to Thee has ennobled and the exalted is he whom worship of Thee has exalted!
So bless Muhammad and his Family, give us to enjoy a wealth which does not run out, [in the hereafter], confirm us with an exaltation which will never be lost and let us roam freely in the kingdom of everlastingness! Surely, Thou art the One, the Unique, the Eternal Refuge; Thou hast not begotten, nor hast Thou been begotten, and equal to Thee is not anyone.)).

God knows.

3. As a female, how does religion improve our mind health?

The answer: Religion commands a person to think and contemplate, and in this way, it encourages him to gain insight and benefit from his mind.

God Almighty said: (190) Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding (191) Who remember Allāh while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire [ Surat Al-Imran].

And God Almighty said: And of His signs is [that] He shows you the lightning [causing] fear and aspiration, and He sends down rain from the sky by which He brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who use reason. [Surat Al-Roum 24].

Many verses have come in warning of the virtue of reason, and among them is the Almighty’s saying:

(6) And for those who disbelieved in their Lord is the punishment of Hell, and wretched is the destination. (7) When they are thrown into it, they hear from it a [dreadful] inhaling while it boils up. (8) It almost bursts with rage. Every time a company is thrown into it, its keepers ask them, "Did there not come to you a warner? (9) They will say, "Yes, a warner had come to us, but we denied and said, 'Allāh has not sent down anything. You are not but in great error.'" (10) And they will say, "If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze.". [Surat Al-Moulk].

These verses indicate that the rational person is the one who knows how to obey their Lord, and among the hadiths that indicate the virtue of reason is the saying of the Messenger of God (may God bless him and his Family and grant them peace): ((It only comprehends all goodness with mind, and there is no religion for one who has no mind.))

God knows best.

4. What can we do Islamically to improve our health during times of stress, depression and anxiety?

The answer: The first thing a depressed person does is to try to get out of depression, such as reading something, going for a walk, or exercising, and the best cure for depression is the renewal of remembrance by reading or listening to the Qur’an. Because the cause of depression is the dominance of the material side over the spiritual side in a person, God knows best.

Any new question in this context, we will add it here, God willing. (Administration of the Alawite Islamic Library)
